Position Summary

We are seeking a Private Locates Technician with 7–8 years of proven experience in the utility locating industry. The ideal candidate must have formal training, hands-on experience in private locating, and a strong working knowledge of GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar). In this role, you'll conduct private utility locates on residential, commercial, and industrial properties, ensuring safe and accurate identification of underground utilities.

This is a field-based role that requires travel within Auburn, GA and the surrounding Barrow and Gwinnett County areas. A company vehicle will be provided for work-related travel.

What You’ll Do

• Perform private utility locating using standard and advanced locating equipment (including electromagnetic and GPR when required)

• Interpret utility maps and site plans to identify buried infrastructure such as gas, electric, water, sewer, communication lines, and private systems

• Accurately mark utility lines using paint and flags

• Provide detailed documentation and reports on locate activities

• Communicate professionally with customers, contractors, and internal teams

• Respond to emergency or after-hours locates as part of a rotation schedule

• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and best practices at all times

What You’ll Earn

• Starting Pay: $18.00/hour and up, based on experience

• Performance-Based Increases:

  • +$0.50/hour after 60 days

  • Additional +$0.50/hour after 180 days

Key Responsibilities

• Drive to job sites daily (50–200+ miles)

• Use mapping tools and locating equipment to detect underground utilities

• Mark utility locations with paint and flags

• Communicate findings clearly to contractors and excavation crews

• Respond to emergency call-outs per rotation schedule (if applicable)

Required Qualifications

• 7–8 years of verifiable experience in utility locating, including private locates

• Formal training in utility locating practices and equipment

• Experience with GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) is strongly preferred.

• Valid Driver’s License and clean driving record

• Strong understanding of utility systems and ability to read utility maps and blueprints

• Comfortable working independently outdoors in all weather conditions

• Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills

• Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Physical Requirements

• Walk up to 6 miles per day over various terrain

• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds

• Sit and drive for extended periods

• Work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
